When a devastating hit knocks a professional football legend and quarterback Cap Rooney out of the game, a
young, unknown third-stringer is called in to replace him. Having ridden the bench for years because of a string of bad
luck stories and perhaps insufficient character, Willie Beaman seizes what may be his last chance, and lights up the
field with a raw display of athletic prowess. His stunning performance over several games is so outstanding and fresh it
seems to augur a new era in the history of this Miami franchise, and forces aging coach Tony D'Amato to reevaluate his
time-tested values and strategies and begin to confront the fact that the game, as well as post-modern life may be
passing him by. Adding to the pressure on D'Amato to win at any cost is the aggressive young President/Co-owner of the
team, Christina Pagniacci, now coming into her own after her father's death...

tanti anni Tony D'Amato è l'allenatore della squadra di football dei Miami Sharks. La stagione in corso però, dopo
quattro sconfitte consecutive, si sta mettendo male. In più al vecchio proprietario, da poco deceduto e sostenitore
della sacralità del gioco, è succeduta la figlia Christina, che ha subito adottato una linea di condotta del tutto
diversa: al bando i sentimentalismi, le quote di profitto devono salire e se la squadra va male siamo in presenza di un
investimento sbagliato da cambiare al più presto. L'uomo simbolo dei giocatori è il quarterback Cap Rooney, che ha
39 anni, vorrebbe mantenere ancora viva la propria leggenda, ma un infortunio lo costringe alla sosta forzata. Scende
allora in campo Willie Beamen, giovane e ambizioso, che con alcune belle prestazioni si impone all'attenzione generale.
Dopo altre partite dall'esito alterno (l'ultima perduta sotto un diluvio), si arriva ai play-off. Duri colloqui a due si
succedono prima tra Tony e Cube, che non vorrebbe rientrare, poi tra Tony e Christina. Tra grandi contrasti e
incertezze, la squadra va in campo per la sfida con Dallas. In un palpitante succedersi di azioni...
